19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his first championship for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

Medvedev, a former number one, has experienced a challenging season, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in particular - caused him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-time coach Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's first championship following the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface since March of the previous year.

Victory also means he has won 21 titles at twenty-one different events.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my children at once, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my child her name, because the first title I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament previously this season.

His retrieving approach and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had led some to doubt if his capacity to perform at the highest level was finished.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an improved serve.

The champion fought back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden professional championship, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

Moutet defended four initial chances in a competitive third set before the champion broke to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the title with a rally at the net area, with Moutet incapable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
